What's next?
Here's a rough timeline of the fulfillment process:
•August 2025 - Funds clear the bank - Backerkit Surveys Sent - Fulfilment of all digital rewards.
•September 2025 - Place Order With Printer and other vendors.
•October 2025 We waaiiit...
•November 2025 - Recieve books from printer - fulfillment time!
•December 2025 - Complete fulfillment of all rewards - Kick back and relax for the holidays.

With just 5 day left in the Concrete Arcanum: Living With Monsters Kickstarter, I find myself reflecting upon why I do what I do.
BACK CONCRETE ARCANUM
Why do an anthology?
Why take on the (*hrrrk*) leadership position of organizing a whole bunch of comics artists and putting a book together.
Because anthologies are where I got my self-publishing start. By participating in the Cthulhu is Hard to Spell anthologies, I got a behind the scenes look at how Kickstarter campaigns operate and also a chance to strengthen my writing muscles by crafting short stories.
By launching my own anthology series, I’m giving other creators who are just starting out on their journey a chance to see how the sausage is made. Not only that, beginners get to stand side-by-side with seasoned pros and see that their work is just as worthy of being published.
Why go the independent route?
Why not get a contract with a “real” publisher?
Because the most interesting stories in comics right now are being told in the indy/creator-owned space.
Stories like Grawlgore and Shanks by my pals over at ComixTribe
A dwarf tailor and his orc steward have become a pair of unorthodox detectives who solve murder mysteries in a fantasy world prone to class-driven conspiracies.
Or Knight by Shaun Keenan and company.
In a world where there is more darkness than day, nocturnal creatures have become the apex predators and humans their prey. Humanity now relies on its KNIGHTS for survival, but their numbers are few and the monsters in the night are increasing.
Or Quest by Scott Harris
Two hundred years after their world was devastated by a magical war, the heroes of a new age are charged with an impossible mission: survive a thousand miles of haunted dungeons, bizarre monsters, ruined castles, and magical traps -- or see their world die!
All of these projects, like Concrete Arcanum: Living With Monsters, are professional quality stories that you would never see from the big publishers. And indy publishing is allowing these creators to make their stories and get rewarded for them without having to go through gatekeepers and middlemen.
Why should you back?
Why not just pick it up at a convention, store, or Amazon?
If you don’t back, the book doesn’t get published. It’s that simple.
We Indy comic folks rely on these Kickstarters to fund print runs and get books directly to our faithful readers. However, Kickstarter is all or nothing. If we don’t make it to the funding goal, that means we don’t have enough money/interest to fund a print run.

I’ll get right to the point. Concrete Arcanum: Living With Monsters Kickstarter is in the final days of the campaign, and the situation is not looking great.
With just ten days to go in the campaign, we are sitting at a little more than halfway funded. Unless 120 or so backers make the pledge by noon on July 20th, Concrete Arcanum: Living With Monsters does not happen.
There will be no picking it up at a convention later. There will be no buying it online. It will flat out not see the light of day.
You see, Kickstarter is not just a sales platform, it’s market research. It asks the question, “do enough people care about this to warrant bringing it to life?”
That funding goal? It’s not an arbitrary number. It’s a carefully calculated amount that covers the cost of printing, shipping, taxes, fees, and paying all the contributing creators. It is quite literally the cost of making Concrete Arcanum happen.
That said, while it is a steep climb it's not an impossible one. You are what makes Concrete Arcanum and other projects like it possible. You are the reason that I and all the creators attached to this project are making comics. We want to tell stories and bring just a little bit of joy, entertainment, and escape to you. And we need you to make it happen.
And it’s pretty safe deal for backers. Kickstarter is all or nothing. If we don’t reach our goal, you don’t pay a dime.
This isn’t a charity, either. There are tons of quality rewards and bonuses that will keep your summer reading list going well into October!
